Caine appeared in Amber one day with a newcomer in tow, who introduced himself as Hapslladdwyr. Though he answers to any variation on his name, he ususally suggests people call him Lladd. And though he claims kinship with the Royal Family, he admits that his parentage is a mystery to him, one that he hopes to have solved sometime in his lifetime.
Lladd grew up on a Shadow called Imrhis, a place he fondly refers to as "home." There, he was raised in one of the larger cities by Khana, a spry old man who was both father and brother to the parentless boy. However, though he may look back on his own youth with pleasure, he is without nostalgia. The past is the past, and the present moves on.
In many ways he is a pleasure seeker, grounded in the joys of the moment, but one who enjoys bringing pleasure to others as well. To this end, he willingly demonstrates his abilities with sleight-of-hand. His nimble, quick hands are able to pull off fantastic feats of trickery without use of any magic. He admits this was something he did on a regular basis in his home, to pass the time and provide some income.
As for other skills, he can ride, use a sword passably well, and knows some of the finer points of politeness. He could almost be considered a dilettante, one who dabbles in the art of being a noble. At the same time, he is also an errand boy, assisting both Caine and others with small tasks. Very often there is a trade-off of some kind, an exchange of services, and in this way he lives comfortably, quietly, and generously.
